Improving lives and outcomes within our communities

Improving lives and outcomes within our communities

One of the most meaningful and powerful ways to fight inequality, poverty and injustice is through education. When children and youth fall behind due to family problems, illnesses or social inequity, the resources to catch up usually don’t exist. And once behind, catching up (let alone establishing the foundational knowledge children need) can be nearly impossible to self correct. We offer resources, hope and opportunity to students who may not otherwise be able to progress, and build fellowship within underserved communities. Some of the ways we're impactful are noted below:

Be Resourceful

Access to information leads to greater progress as well as better informed decisions. We serve as a hub to various, curated resources that are available to help organize, inspire and provide guidance within our communities.

Pay it Forward

When we give, we replenish a part of our own selves with compassion and fulfillment. All of our foundation's efforts are future-focused, cater to creating safe spaces of opportunity, and highlight the potential of those we serve.

Be Impactful

Our work transcends the 'here and now' and plants seeds of harvest that have the ability to alter future generations for the better. We aim to highlight the importance of legacy-building, a commitment we actively contribute to every day.

A Life of Leadership & Dedication:

Pastor Lewis M. Anthony

Lewis Marco Anthony was born on March 4,1952 in Washington, DC. He was a pastor at the African Methodist Episcopal Zion church who led congregations in Washington and helped bridge the city’s religious and political communities through his high-profile work around the nation’s capital and the country.

As a 17-year-old student at Anacostia High School he was tapped to speak at the rededication of RFK Stadium in honor of the slain Sen. Robert F. Kennedy (D-N.Y.).

Pastor Anthony, a Columbia University and Harvard Law School graduate, began the process of ordination soon after returning home from law school in the late 1970s. He additionally served as an adviser for youth affairs for Walter E. Washington, and later became a speechwriter and religious liaison for Mayor Marion Barry Jr. He led Metropolitan Wesley and Varick Memorial Churches, and prior to his passing he shepherded St. Lucille A.M.E. Zion Church.

In 2000, Rev. Anthony was in the first class of inductees into the Washington D.C. Hall of Fame. He was recognized for his work as a “widely traveled speaker, teacher and preacher” and was regarded as one of the city’s most poetic, eloquent and in-demand speakers, a stalwart of commencement-day addresses, political conclaves, community gatherings, memorial services, prayer breakfasts, and pulpits of all denominations.

“Rev. Anthony was the opening act for any politician of consequence,” noted political commentator Mark Plotkin “He was a must for the invocation and the benediction.”

We continue to celebrate Pastor Anthony’s life through our work and he continues to serve as an inspiration for our Foundation daily.

FOR STUDENTS

Check availability and apply for a Scholarship

A scholarship is a form of financial aid awarded to students to further their education. Our scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria, such as personal potential, academic merit and financial need. Some of our awards may come with conditions such as maintaining a specific GPA.

Our scholarship criteria reflects our own values and beliefs, and rewards those in need who are ready for the next level, and require nothing but an opportunity.

Scholarships are made available a few times a year via announcement dates, and are offered to eligible students who meet certain criteria. These awards are paid directly to student accounts at their schools. Any leftover grant money is then provided to students for other expenses.
